My husband's 2nd great grandmother, Margaret Logan, was born in County Cavan on Aug 1, 1825. She emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada in 1850. In 1853, she married William H. McLeod. She died in 1903 and is buried in Saint John, New Brunwick.
Thanks.

Hi Maureen,
Thank you for your message. I hope that someone with information on Margaret makes a connection with you and shares information.
Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information on her as you do not have a specific parish in County Cavan. Most Irish record sources are based on parishes so it can be difficult to go further without knowing this.
Have you already tried searching:
www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.
www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.
Do you know her father?s name? If you do you could try looking for him the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Have you tried looking into her emigration? I know sometimes it can be difficult to find Canadian immigration records dating that early however it may be worth a try as generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. You may be lucky and find a more specific place name. You should also try looking at all official documentation that you have that relates to Margaret. This includes marriage records, death records, census records, wills etc. For more information on Canadian government records check the Canadian National Library and Archives here:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html
Some other websites that you may find useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm
Irish Genealogy Tool-kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/index.html
Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

Thank you Emma! I really know very little about Margaret other than she had beautiful auburn hair and was spotted as she disembarked her ship by her future husband who offered her a job helping to care for his mother. Or so the story goes!
From time to time I try to search the passenger/immigration records for all my people, and I have an 1850 passenger list tentatively attached to Margaret, but no way of knowing for sure just yet.
Those are wonderful resources and I will check them out soon!
Maureen
