I found a death index record for a Peter Killoran in 1893 in the Sligo registration district which would include Heapstown. Possibly this is your great-grandfather. If you want a copy of the record, you need to write to the GRO www.groireland.ie   fill out their form and provide the quarter/year of death, registration district and the volume and page number ( 2 and 201). Costs around 4 euros. I also found a 1901 census record in Heapstown for a 25 year old Peter Killoran. His sister, Ellen and a niece Bridget were living with him.

Thank you Roger, this is a great find, although I'm not really sure if it's my Great Grandfather, it is, at least, a start.  The Peter Killoran who died in 1893 could be GGF and the younger Peter, born around 1876,  could be an uncle.  Is there any way of finding a marriage record for Peter Killoran that would be in the area of 1870 - 1880 or there abouts?  If the younger Peter is a great uncle, then his parents would, in all likelihood, have been married before his birth but I'm unable to find a record of their marriage.

I wish I could be sure of my great grandmother's surname but I'm not although I've been told it was Maloney or Monaghan.  I know it makes it difficult to find information when it's so sketchy and I really appreciate your time and efforts, thank you again.

I did not find a civil marriage index recor but I did not expect to. Since Peter's sister was 40 in the 1901 census, her year of birth was around 1860 which means the marriage occurred earlier. Civil registration started in 1864.

The Mormon Church did microfilm the RC church records for the area. You can order the film online and look at the film at a local Family History Center. https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/111923?availability=Family%20History%20Library
