I am trying to trace my family history.

My uncle, who has since passed away, in collaboration with another relative traced it back to a Jane Neelin born 1746.  I have been attempting to duplicate this information as well as carry on further.

It appears as if this branch of the Neelin clan all emigrated to the Gouldbourne (Ottawa) area Canada in or about 1825.

  • Hi William,

Thank you for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

Using the Irish TImes website, you can see that records for Kinawley parish only go back as far as 1835 so if the family were based in this parish it may be difficult to go back further than you have. It may be an idea to contact Cavan Genealogy to see if they can be of any assistance. Here is their email address:

cavangenealogy@eircom.net Please note that a fee may apply.

Alternatively you try contacting the Local Studies Department of Cavcan County Library to see if they can offer any further assistance:

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
