I am trying to find where in Ireland my Great Great Grandfather John Smiley born 1799 lived. He died 14 September1880 in Bearbrook, Ontario,Canada ? I cannot find anything at all where the lived. I know is he left Ireland with his wife Angela Brines and their children, Susannah Smiley born 23 October 1836, Eliza Smiley born 1846, Jane Smiley birthdate not known, John Smiley born1844, James Smiley born 1847, George Smiley born 2 May 1849, Richard Smiley born 28 FEB 1845 and William Smiley. The family left Ireland in 1847 and headed for Canada. Any help would be appreciated.

The family left Ireland before the Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted. I looked at the Griffiths and by far that spelling was mostly found in Co. Antrim. You can go to www.rootsireland.ie pay site but Griffiths is free and look at where the name was found. Another site is www.askaboutireland.ie which is free.
