I' m looking for the family of Patrick C. Burke. His only son's name was David and I have some evelopes that have been addresed to a Mrs. David Burke Appletown, Limerick, Ireland. Patrick was a marbleizer of slate and lived in Fairhaven, Vermont.

Dana:
Appletown is in Mahoonagh civil parish. The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Mahoonagh parish shows a David Burke in Appletown. I assume this is the son of Patrick. I looked for a death index record for David but could not locate one. I also checked the 1901 census for Appletown. There was a Richard Bourke family listed. Richard was listed as 77.

Thank you for your response! David would be my Patrick's father. Patrick's son David was born in Vermont and died in Pennsylvania. Is there a way to find out how old David Burke was in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation? That must be the right family. Thank you for your help!

Dana:
The Griffiths Valuation does not show the age of the head of household. I also checked the Tithe Applotment listing and found David Bourke in Appletown in 1833 as a head of household with 72 acres of land. By 1850, I'm assuming David was at least 50 if not older. I did not locate a death index record for him which would imply that he died before 1864 when civil registration started. One caution, initially compliance with registration was not 100% when the process started.
