Can anyone tell em anything about my great great great grandparents. He was Thomas Maclurcan, a surgeon in Belfast in the 1820s and 1830s and died in 1946 and she was Anne Dowdall. She died in childbirth in 1826, I believe, with their only son Samuel John Maclurcan

Hi John,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime, Thomas is listed In Pigot?s Directory of Ireland 1824; he is listed with an address of 10 Castle Lane:

Note the name is spelled MacLurkan.
Have you tried looking at church records to see if there is any more information in them? Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Belfast City, follow this link:
Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42
Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.
If Thomas was a notable member of the community, being a surgeon, perhaps there may be an obituary for his death in a local newspaper. You could try contacting the Newspaper Library in Belfast to see if they can be of assistance:

There is also an online newspaper database of some Irish newspapers here:

It may be an idea to contact the Ulster Historical Foundation to see if they can be of any more assistance. Here is their email: enquiry@uhf.org.uk
