Trying to trace decendants John & Sarah Mcguire Aust

So you're looking for your mother's ancestors?  

And, you believe your mother is a descendant of John and Sarah McGuire, coming from the son, James, born 1856. Do you know when and where that James was born?   

Is there any record of John and Sarah living in Omagh, Co. Tyrone?

www.rootsireland.ie/ has 2 records of the marriage of John McGuire and Sara; 1 is 1846 and the other 1855. the records cost to view so I didn't get the details but you may want to.

There are 71 McGuires on the Griffiths Valuation done in Tyrone in 1851 but Omagh is not in the list of parish choices in the search.

There are no McGuires in Tyrone in the Tithe Applotments (1823-37) also freely available.

It has been a while since I looked, but seem to recall I found a few in the Tithe. What source did you use? Maybe yours is more accurate than mine.

I've seen the 1855 marriage details. Have it somewhere, but not sure it's accurate. Also, the name can appear as Maguire, so really need to check those spelling variations !!

Spelling variations can arise from transcription inaccuracies and illiteracy - one of the name was spelt maguire which could still be right.

Thanks for that link. It seems to ring a bell - the primary source is (mostly) better.

I got frustrated a few months ago, as I could not find any 'provable' source of my McGuire county before emigrating to Oz. So, I retired wounded for a few months. Hoping for some inspiration or providence!!

Hi to Ian / jock and all the repliers. My father was James McGuire (1915-1988) of Adelaide and the grandson of the Railways Commissioner James (Jas) McGuire (14/7/1856- 27/6/'27). His mother, who I now know is, Sarah was apparently the daughter of a British Navy Officer who served with Nelson and was on the Victory at Trafalgar according to articles in old Sth Aust papers. The Commissioner and wife Mary (O'Sullivan) had 8 sons (3 were WW1 kia) and 1or2 daughters - a T married a D Slattery but she died before her dad. The youngest Paul (1903-'78) a prolific author, but no kids, is found on Wikipedia. I am wanting to find any descendants of the Comm and his siblings, of which I've only found 1 reference to a brother. And more information about Sarah and Mary who survived the Comm by quite a few years. Ian it would be great to talk with you, and any others too; a letter to; McGuire, Karangi 2450 NSW Australia will work, or text me on, 0412 106 512.  Thanks,  Padraig
