  • would like to track down any info on Edward McCrea, his mother Mary Campbell.  Mary came from Scotland with her husband a McCrea.  They were expelled from Scotland because of the Catholic marriage.

  • Hi Irene,

I couldn't find a birth record for Edward on www.rootsireland.ie/ - could he have been born in Scotland?

The Tithe Applotments (1823-37 free to search) have 33 Mccreas in all counties - mostly Donegal but none in Armagh.

In Griffiths Valuation (free to search) Armagh 1864 has 6 McCreas

There is a death record on ancestry of Robert Edward McCray mother Mary Campbell and Father Edward born abt 1930 and died 1972 in Alabama - are these any relation?

If you google Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) you can search a few records there which may help but it's tough without Edward's father's name.

Scotlands People is a site like rootsireland where it is necessary to purchase credit. It has Catholic birth registers and I searched for Edward but no luck!

There are 23 McCreas in the 1901 Irish census and 28 in 1911 (both free to search)

The irish phone book has no McCreas in Armagh so we can't ask them!

Do you have any other info re birth years or locations which might help narrow it down/

    Col
