Hello - I am working on my family tree in preparation for a visit to Ireland in April 2014 and am hoping for assistance. I will provide the information I have been able to gather from obituaries and census information.
According to the obituary of my great grandfather Michael Kane from 1907, he has born in Loughrea, County Galway in February 1830 and traveled to the United States between 1849-1852. Obituaries of his siblings indicate they were also born in Loughrea. They are:
Martin born in January 1828 and arriving in the United States around 1845.
John born in May 1832 and arriving in the United States around 1855.
Hannah born in April 1836. I have not yet found information on her arrival.
Ann born in August 1839. Her obituary states she traveled to the Untied States at the age of 13 in 1852 with her parents, Patrick Kane and Ellen Deele Kane.
A brother William is also listed in Michael's obituary and states he was in Ireland at the time of Michael's death in 1907. I have been unable to determine if he stayed in Ireland when the remainder of the family immigrated to the states or if he came to the states and returned to Ireland for some reason.
I have also found information that leads me to believe the original spelling of the surname could be Kaen, Cain or Kain. If there is help you can provide it will be great appreciated. Our April trip is my chance to view the amazing sights of Ireland and to more thoroughly embrace my Irish heritage.
Thank you.

Candi:
I looked at the 1901 census www.census.nationalarchives looking for William Kanes who lived near Loughrea.
I found two possiblities in nearby parishes and you can search yourself. I also expanded the search to the name Keane.

Hi Candi,
Could you tell me when (exactly) and where Michael died? I would like to try to find him the censuses, and figure out if he had naturalization records, that might pin-point the townland in Loughrea area.
Would you also let me know his wife's name, and their children (names/births/locations), so that I can find them in the censuses?
I will try to help,
Mary Van Dyke
