I am inquiring about my 4th Great Grandfather Thomas Minnis who was born in Newtonards in 1811. He married Mary Jane Annett who was also born in Kilkeel in 1817. They gave birth to my 3rd Great Grandfather Charles W Minnis in 1833 in Newtonards. Charles W Minnis emigrated to the U.S. as a young man and married Margaret Woods (who was born in 1841 in Derry). They also had a daughter named Margaret Jane who was born on April 5, 1842 and was baptized on April 21, 1842 at Mourne Presbyterian Church in Kilkeel.Thomas died in September of 1880 in Kilkeel and his wife Mary Jane died on July 1st, 1902 also in Kilkeel.

If anybody has any information on the Minnis family from Newtonards and Kilkeel, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I looked at the 1901 census for Mary Jane Minnis. I did not find any Minnis records in the general Kilkeel area. I did find a 83 year old Mary Jane Minnis in Dromore civil parish. She was living with two unmarried daughters.

This family was shown as belonging to the Unitarian faith and Dromore is quite a distance from Kilkeel. the age for Mary Jane matches your 1817 date of birth. Is it possible that this record pertains to your family?
