I have traced my Great Grandfather Edward Devlin and Rose Hughes to their marriage 29 August 1853 in Pomeroy County Tyrone. In 1858 Edward and Rose emigrated to Australia on the Sir Thomas Gresham, out of Plymouth. Edward worked in a flour mill while in Ireland. He began working in the same trade after arrival in Greenock, South Australia. He died of asthma in 1875.
Does any one know what records I can find to establish where they may have lived. I plan to visit Ireland in 2014.

Hi Cath
There is a record of the marraige of Edward Devlin and Rose Hughes on www.rootsireland.ie/ (cotst to view records)
The record MAY have parents' names; it has the parish - Pomeroy R C as you said.
Griffiths Valuation 1848-64 (free to search online) has 2 Devlins in Pomeroy Tyrone but no Edward there
However there are 22 Edward Devlins in Tyrone so the marriage may have been in Pomeroy because Rose was from there.
If you can get the marriage record and it has a parent's name of Edward then you can search for his birth and then check Griffiths for Edwards in that parish.
The Tithe Applotments - also free - 1823-37 have no Devlins in Tyrone

Thanks Col
Yes I have used (and paid) roots - and that is where I found my current details. I think you are correct with the Hughes connection to Pommeroy. Appreciate your qick response.
Still digging.
Cheers
