On my paternal side, I am 3rd generation American descendant of Irish immigrants to Boston.  My grandmother Bridget Kenny (married Patrick Coady) arrived in Boston in 1907 at the age of 18.  She was greeted by her sister Mary Kenny (married Thomas Page) who arrived alone in 1903 at the age of 16.  Both traveled in steerage aboard the Saxonia from Cobh and both spoke English and Irish.  Their parents were James Kenny and Bridget Cottle. My grandmother died at 82 but Mary lived to the very old age of 108.  My grandfather, Patrick Coady, arrived in Boston in 1926 in steerage aboard the Cedric.  He married Bridget in 1931. I have records and photos that are now expanding as my parents pass things over and since Mary's last child, Rita, died last year and some of additional things are coming my way.  Any history of these Kennys and Coadys (aka Cuddy) and help identifying some of the people in the photographs I have would be welcome.  I would be happy to post them.  Happy New Year!

I found the 1901 and 1911 census records for the Kenny family in Timadooaun townland Dunmore civil parish. They were living with Bridget's parents in 1901. The Cottles must have died between 1901 and 1911 because the Kennys were living in the house. Any more info on Patrick Coady/Cuddy (year of birth, parents names?)

I found the civil marriage index record for Bridget Cottle and James Kenny in the summer of 1884. I also located the civil death index records  for Michael Cottle who died in the last quarter of 1908 and Honoria Cottle who died in the spring of 1904. If you are interested in getting copies of these records from the General Register Office, let me know and I'll explain the process.

  • Dear Roger: this is really embarrassing but I am only seeing your reply now. I started a hellish job after the New Year in 2014 and simply dropped family history work. I recently quit that job and I am again doing research. Thank so much for the information. I promise faster response in the future. I will send more information soon. Again, my sincere apologies and thanks.

Stephen Coady (family members changed name from Cuddy to Coady as some point).

No problem! I'm retired so I have time available to respond to genealogy messages. Let me know when you get a chance. By the way, sine you were off genealogy, the National Library of Ireland has now placed RC parish reigns terms online. Below is the link to the Glennamaddy register. Records stop in 1880.

  • Hi Roger:

Very kind of you and appreciated. My grandfather, Patrick Coady aka Cuddy - I have a lot of information on him in Ancestry.com including a copy of his birth certificate. I would be happy to email an invitation to view his page as it is considered public in my account so you should be able to see this information here - http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/62039308/person/46081648662.

Let me know if you can't open it. If I have an email address I could invite you to view my tree.

He arrived in the US on the RMS Cedric in 1926 at the age of 34 with his cousin, JJ O'Brien. He married my grandmother, Bridget aka Delia Kenny in 1931. They had three children. He died in 1971. Delia died in 1972.

    Best,

    Stephen Coady
