My ancestors, Michael Lynch and Catharine Kearns, were married at the RC chapel at Cootehall, Ardcarne, Co. Roscommon, on 18 Feb. 1849, with witnesses: James and Ellen Kearns. It seems that Michael's parents were Ambrose Lynch and Mary Moran, possibly of Knockadaff. I have never found any additional information about them, or about Catharine's parents. Are there any earlier resources that might provide more information on these folks?

Annette:
I looked at the 1834 Tithe Applotment listing for Ardcarn parish but did not locate any Lynch, Moran or Kearns records that were helpful. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie You may want to check also. The RC records for Ardcarn do not start until 1843 so you won't be able to locate baptismal records for Michael and Catherine.

Thank you, Roger, for trying. You have hit the nail on the head - no early sacramental records. So, it would appear that I am stuck, unable to identify earlier generations of my family. Well, I can always hope for a miracle!

Hi Annette
There is a record of the baptism of Catherine Kerns 1819 Roscommon on www.rootsireland.ie/
There are 2 matches for James Kearns - 1826 & 1831 but none for Ellen Kearns (James's wife?)
Not sure of the parents' names are on the records (it costs to view the full record) but it will have the parish.
No luck with Ambrose and Mary's marriage
There is a baptism record for Ambrose Lynch but it is 1859 Roscommon!
There are 450 birth/bap Mary Morans in Roscommon so an approximate birth year will help narrow it down.
There is a record of Michael Lynch 1826 Roscommon.
