I plan to be in Ballinderry in October of this year, after a week of research in Dublin. Am hoping to connect with Hogan or Coonan descendants who might be related to me. My great-grandmother, Mary Hogan was born in Ballinderry. Her parents were Thomas Hogan and Mary Coonan, who were married there on 8 Feb 1833. They had six children: Patrick (1834), Mary (1836), Thomas (1839), Ellen (1841), Bridget (1844) and John Joseph (1847), all baptized in Terryglass Parish. Patrick, Mary, Bridget and John all came to the U.S., probably in the 1850's and 1860's. I have no idea what happened to Thomas or Ellen, nor when, where or how the parents died.

I'm not in Ireland, so you may not want to connect...however, possibly we have research to share?
Searching my Daniel Hogan line, b. ca 1800-ca1848, his wife Honora (Anna) Tuohy 1799-1872, Children baptised Terryglass parish: Catherine b. ca. 1828, Daniel b. ca. 1830, Honora/Anna b. 1831, Anne b. 1834, Martin b. 1838, John b. 1840, Bridget b. 1842. Evidence Honora Tuohy's sister, Julia/Judith Tuohy m. Michael O'Meara/Meara/Mara - lived next door to each other Griffith's Valuation, Cappanasmear/Garryard. (near Borrisokane, but looks like 7km by road/car now from Ballinderry).
Have you seen the photo of the Elsie Hogan pub in Ballinderry? Do you have a connection?

Yes, I have seen Elsie Hogans pub, and intend to visit when I am in Ballinderry. Looks like you and I are in the same boat. Lots of names, some dates, and seeking more. Hogan is such a common name in that part of the county, that it may be next to impossible to untangle families and learn much more. Still, I intend to try at least this once.
I don't recognize any of the folks you mentioned, and doubt there is a close connection, but maybe one day we will discover one. Meanwhile, good luck in your searches.

A while back I obtained the microfilm of Terryglass & Kilbarron parish marriages and baptisms from a local Family History Center, and painstakingly copied down ALL Hogan and Coonan marriages and baptisms. For Daniel and Honora, I have the following children: Catherine bap. 16 Sep 1828, res. Cappanasmear, sponsors William Quigley & Mary Quigley (parents names in this record given as Dandy Hogan & Ann Tuohy); Honora bap. 28 Aug 1831, res. Garryard, sponsors Martin Hogan & Biddy Hanny; Anne bap. 19 Mar 1834, res. Cappanasmear, sponsors Patt Hogan & Anne Hogan; Martin bap. 1 May 1836, res. Cappanasmear, sponsors Dennis Hogan & Nancy Hogan; Martin bap. 3 Nov 1838, res. Cappanasmear, sponsor Alley Meara (mother's name on this record given as Owney Tuohy); John bap. 3 Jul 1840, res. Cappanasmear, sponsors William Hogan & Mary Hough; Bridget bap. 28 Jan 1843, res. Cappanasmear; sponsors John Meara & Eliza Hogan. I was unable to find son Daniel. Considering that they were living in Cappanasmear in 1828, and Garryard in 1831, it may be that they had been elsewhere, out of this particular parish, at the time of Daniel's birth and baptism.

Hello Bob,
I am here due to a LinkedIn connection in the Terryglass / Borrisokane area whose Uncle is a Hogan.
I have been able to follow our Family Tree back to my Great, Great Grandfather, Luke Hogan Sr. of Terryglass (b.1799) and his wife Elizabeth aka Eliza (Ballard) from Borrisokane. They emigrated to Eardley, Ontario, Canada in 1844 with a number of the Ballard Family.
Sadly, I am the last of this one line of Luke Sr.'s family. I believe he had six children, one of which was Luke Jr. who had a Son, Angus, who also had a Son, Joseph, Leo Francis, who was my Father.
I do have a lot of further information on the Luke Sr line, if I can be of any help.
I am located in Cambridge, ON, Canada.
