Hello all !
Have been tracing my Russell family for over 30 years!! My Edmund Russell arrived in Boston, Massachusetts in 1851 with his brother Timothy. They then worked at DuPont Powder Works in Wilmington, Delaware ( which conscripted Irish to work at their factory) along with (I presume) their brothers, Patrick, James and Michael. There was also a sister Catherine. All siblings were married (both in Ireland and here) and all named their first borns Thomas and Julia. From that naming pattern I had been searching the IFHF RC baptismal records.
I could not find children with these names born to a Thomas and Julia Russell, however, I did find a few born to a Thomas and Judith. After many inquiries, I have been informed that Julia was used as a nickname for Judith. Therefore I am hopeful that I have found them.
Found a marriage on 2/24/1811 in the parish of Drom for a Thomas Russell and Judith Quinlan.
Children:
Michael b. 9/10/1826 , Edmund b. 10/20/1823, Timothy b. 9/3/1828
Any comments are welcome!
Thank you.

Elizabeth:
I looked at the Tithe Applotment books www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie I searched for Russell in Drom civil parish in Co. Tipperary. Nine entries came up although I think there are some duplicates. A Thomas Russell is listed in Drom townland within the parish. Not sure if this is your Thomas but it could be.

I also checked the 1901 census for Drom townland. I found two Russell families. Note there is a 40 year old Thomas in the first record. Possibly a grandson to the older Thomas?

Hi Roger,
Yes, could be mine indeed....IF the Thomas Russell I believe is mine was the one from Drom. I have searched every available U.S. record for my Edmund (Edward) Russell, his siblings and all of their children in the hope that I would find mention of at the very least, the county in Ireland they were from. Never found a thing until the rootsireland website added the Tipp records. And also assuming that Judith Quinlan was known as Julia. As all the children named their first daughter Julia. So frustrating.

Hi Roger,
Yes, of course, could definitely be a grandson of Thomas - from a child of his who stayed behind in Ireland.
You are very kind to help, it is much appreciated.
Thank you, Liz
