I am looking for any family members of Sarah Mulhern b. 1795 in Dublin. I do not know what parish she came from. She had a child named Mariah in Dublin in 1814. She married Charles Furey/Feury in Dublin but am not sure if he is Mariah's father. They emigrated to the US and settled in New Jersey where they had 7 other children. I have not been able to find a death record for her in the US. I have a problem with her maiden name. All records in the US state her maiden name as Coghlan and the sister of Daniel Cooghlan. I am beginning to wonder if her mother was married twice but all the children's death records state their mother's maiden name as Mulhern. Hard to figure this out. Do birth records go back to 1800? Would Catholic birth records go back that far?

Hello Janet,
Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 but there are church records from around the 1800, a few parishes go back to the late 1700's
You might try the following sites for Sarah... www.rootsireland.ie is free to join and search. The reocrds cost about €5 to view and print. This site covers part of Co Dublin .
The other site is a free government site and it totally free. This covers the other part of Dublin. www.irishgenealogy.ie I think you may have to search both as you are not sure of a place of birth.
Have you looked at www.castlegarden.org which is a ship passenger list to NYC before Ellis Island opened?
Hope these suggestions will help you on your way,
Kind regards,
Anne Dennehy
