Looking for information on the birth of Hannah Haslingden, daughter of James Haslingden and Mary Anne Maguire in about 1839 in Dublin

Also the marriage of James and Mary Ann which may have been 1 Dec 1827 at St Mary, Haddington Road Dublin. Hopefully the record may confirm James's parent's names.

James was eventually a ships Captain, born in England but ended up in Australia. Hannah went to school in Dublin after the death of her perent/s and lived with her maternal grandmother in the mid 1840's, possibly a Catholic school.

Hannah's brother James was also born in Dublin in 1829.

This is a branch of the tree that is proving to be quite elusive, most of the information above is taken from the memoir of a descendant, it would be nice to confirm the details as correct.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • The marriage of James and Mary Ann is on the IrishGenealogy website, but does not contain many details - just date of marriage, names of bride & groom, plus names of witnesses. The website currently only has a transcript for this section of the register but but would not expect the original register to show any more than this, particularly for such an early RC record .

St. Mary's Haddington Rd. (there are several other St. Mary's in Dublin) is RC  and located just south east of the Grand Canal.

I cant see baptisms for either of the children you mention so far in Dublin City records, but will have another look later..

edit : might be related due to the uncommon surname - there are burial records on the Glasnevin website of a Marianne Haslingden in 1834, and an Edward Haslingden in 1835. Might be a very basic records as there doesn't even seem to be an age recorded on either

  • I think this could be a sibling to your James and Hannah, maybe the Edward that died the same year  - surname transcribed as Hastingden, and baptism recorded at St. Andrew's RC, which is on Westland Row in the city and just east of Trinity College.

    Baptism of Edward Hastingden 1835

Parents listed as James and Mary Ann, and godparents as Patrick McEvatt and Bridget Hastingden - possibly a relation of James ?

There's a James Haslingden, mariner listed in Slater's directory of 1846 with an address at 10 George's street, doesn't specify which George's st. though.. if it's South Gt. George's Street then it would fit with the South Andrews baptism.

see : page 94/95 Merchants & Traders Index 1846   (pdf file)
