I think Luke died in 1887. See index record below. There was also a Luke Hartigan born 1835 and died 1885 and a Luke Hartigan born 1812 died 1892. ( I can send those records to you if you want a copy). The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing shows three David Hartigans and two Luke Hartigans in Colmanswell parish. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/limerick/colmanswell.htm

Since the Hartigans in 1901 lived in Fort Middle townland, I'm wondering if David Hartigan in 1850 Griffiths listed in Fort Middle is the father of Luke. ( I know none of Luke's sons was a David).

I discovered very recently that Luke Hartigan's father was Cornelius Hartigan and then I was able to trace him to the 1827/37 land survey. This shows a Cornelius Hartigan farming 170 acres at Garrane. I had to look that up on the map and was surprised to see that it sits adjacent to the area of Fort. By the time of the Griffiths Valuation, there is 170 acres being farmed by a Margaret Hartigan (widow) in Garrane. As Luke's first born son was named Cornelius I've always believed that Luke's father would be a Cornelius but it's taken years to find any evidence of him. Luke's marriage certificate shows his deceased father as Cornelius. 

Beyond that I can't trace anything else about Cornelius and Margaret Hartigan, understandable given the records are so rare for this time. But I suspect their parish church would have been Rockhill. My knowledge of the geography is limited to family memories, a couple of visits and old maps online. 

I have tried to trace the area of Parkroo, but this seems to be an old area no longer recognised. 

I have assumed that the Hartigans that farmed at Fort (East, Middle & West) must have been related, but no evidence to date. I've visited two Fort residences, one was farmed by David Hartigan and the other (a black and white house) was farmed by Luke Hartigan (my ggf).
