Trying to find more info about James & Jane Richey/Ritchie (her maiden name unknown - would love to know what it was). James was born possibly c.1804 in Dublin (guessing this date, Jane was born c.1806). He married Jane at some point in Ireland and they had three sons all born in Dublin, they were:
David b.1839 Richard b. 1841 and Alexander b.1843
At some point before 1851 they all scarpered off to England. Jane Richey lived in Birkenhead and appears on the 1851 Census as a Widow, so James Richey/Ritchie must have died sometime between 1843 - 1851, possibly before the family came to England, I cant find any records for his death in England. Jane remained a Widow and died in Birkenhead in 1879. The use of 'Ritchie' seems to stem from Alexander, who spelled it thusly, he must have been very young when his father died but names him on his marriage documents as 'James Ritchie'.
The family are not Catholics so Im guessing the ancestors werent either.
If anyone out there can help it would be great, its driving me nuts!
Jane & James are my husbands 3rd Great Grandparents.

Do any of the census returns for the three children include a more specific place of birth - even Dublin city or county ?
There are some Ritchie/Richy/Ritchy records on the IrishGenealogy website, but I didn't spot baptisms for any of the children . (Most of the Church of Ireland parishes in Dublin city are covered on the website)
Do you have an occupation for James from any of the children's baptisms ?

Wow amazed to get a response so quickly. Unfortunately I've said all I know. I have no baptism records for the boys. The only reason I know of james at all is because Alexander States his fathers name on marriage documents.

sorry - typo in my last reply, I meant to ask about father's occupation on the marriage certs for the boys..
Depending of what James' occupation was, he might appear in directories, which can help the search.
Did the three sons end up in Birkenhead also ?

i don't have the marriage Certs at this point, only what I've found online. It is the 3rd son Alexander who is in our line. He was definitely married in Birkenhead. They all came over at some point shortly before 1851. Don't know if james came, he could have already died.
