Can anyone help me please, I have been trying for years to find out about my grt. grandfathers life before he left Ireland for Liverpool. His name is Thomas Mcguinness born around 1847ish, his Father is Edward and that is all I know. I have all Census records and Marriage/Death Cert: and have been able to follow him throughout his life here in Liverpool but would love to know about his beginnings in Ireland.

Thank you.

  • Hi Madeline

There are 7  records of the baptism of Thomas McGuinness 1847 + - 5 years on www.rootsireland.ie/

However there is only 1 from Swords R C parish and that is Thomas Magenis 1846

rootsireland is a subscription site; the record MAY have his parents' names.

If that's him I have credits so could get the record for you.

The Tithe Applotments (free online) have 3 McGuinnesses in Dublin in the 1830's

If you google life in Dblin in the 1840's you shpuld find a site which gives you a picture of life as it was.

You might also try a site www.irishgenealogy.ie/ which is free and has Dublin records but I couldn't find him there.

  • Col, thank you for your time and trying to help, unfortunately he is still elusive. On all the English census,s he is mcguinness and his Father is Edward on his Marriage Cert: but I just cannot find any info: on him in Ireland.

    Thank you anyway,

    Regards, Madeline.

  • Madeline you need to be aware that there were transcription errors and illiteracy issues that could account for spelling variations and inaccuracies so the Swords record I found could still be yours.

  • Thanks Col, yes your right it could just be a spelling mistake or variations of the surname. I will look around the site and see if its worth me buying some credits. I appreciate your help.

    Madeline.
