~~Hello,
I am searching for any information regarding the McInerney family of Castletownarra in North Tipperary.

There is a family grave at Castletown church besides Lough Derg which states, ‘Erected by Thady McInerney in memory of Patrick McInerney who departed this life …1820 aged 60 years.’

I believe this Thady to be the brother or uncle of Patrick McInerney 1801-1889 who married Bridget Starr (b.c.1810). They had children together, including Patrick (b. 1839 my g-g-grandfather) Timothy and Thomas (b. 1851). They held land at Laghtea.
In 1825 in the Tithe Applotment books a ‘McKenertney’ held 18 acres at Loughtea (i.e. Laghtea) with a ‘Hellebert’. There are no forenames given.

The above is a general outline of the family. I am interested in any information whatsoever. In 1849 one Mary McInerney went to Australia as a famine orphan, her mother being Margaret [O’Meara possibly] and father Timothy McInerney. She sailed on the Caroline Eliza ship bound for Williamstown, Australia. I believe her to my a cousin to my g-g-grandfather Patrick (.b.1833-1911).
Any information relating to any of the above – or in relation to the families of Starr or Hellebert – would be appreciated.

Regards,

Luke McInerney

  •  In the mid 1800s there was a large migration from Castletownarra and environs to the slate quarries in Vermont USA, among these were many Starrs and at least one Hellebert.
