Hello from Australia,I am trying to trace my roots like many others and all I have is my 2nd great grandfathers name...Patrick Laurence Maguire B 1833 in Carlingford Co Lough according to his marriage certificate...parents Patrick Laurance and Bridget Doyal (not sure if doyal or boyal or similar-horrid writing) Patrick senior was a stonemason. Junior was married in Australia in 1858 so somehow found his way out here before then, hoping someone somewhere may know something about them
Thanking you
Kylie

Hi here are some sites that may assist. Also could the mothers name be Boyle which is more common in the area. Doyle is a name found in Ireland also.
A local site is http://www.carlingfordpeople.ie and a site for Louth is here but does no have certificates as per church registers which may be found here at some future point.
http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com and future site http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ Irish civil records only commenced in 1864 for all and in 1845 for Protestant marriages.
There is a church tax record here for 1823 to 1837 for those with more than an acre.

I will check on a subscription site site for the birth in the next 24 hours.

Hi Again Kylie
I tried Find My Past and got no record of a Maguire birth but I think church records which are all that is available may not be available for that period in Carlingford. There were no hit either in the tithe applottments that I sent you but in Griffiths valuation there is a Patrick Maguire in 1854 in Carlingford at Ballagan which is near Greenore, http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameS…; there is a little map given on the site which can be checked current maps at http://www.osi.ie/Home.aspx or Google maps but you have to take a leap of faith that it may be your Patricks father Patrick. Greenore is in the Carlingford area for the purposes of searching and at that time and only later began a port of note on a small scale.
I live about 40 miles away as I do not think there is a local volunteer there.
