Not sure if this is your man as you didn't mention a birth year but the only birth / baptism record of Robert Alexander Griffin in the 1900's is 29 April 1928 in Trinity Without R C parish WATERFORD

there's a potential birth match for your to Robert on the BMD Index - the middle initial fits, and the year quarter is correct.. so definitely worth noting. Birth is in Ireland and Registration district is Waterford which covers the city and parts of county Waterford, also a few sections of south county KIlkenny. Mother's maiden name is Bolster..
