Hi I am new to this I am looking for any information on my ancestors. The spelling of the name has changed since they came to America to Branam. I am going to be traveling to Ireland in the near future and I would like to visit where my family is from. I just know that they are from Armagh. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you and Blessed Be

If you search the 1901 Irish census for Co Armagh you will find about 100 people of the surname. Search under ?Bran*?. That way you will bring up all the many variations of spellings for the name. The most common is Brannigan. But there are many others. (There?s no O?Brannigans. That variation doesn?t appear to have been used anywhere in Ireland).

Hi Cammie
Following Elwyn's suggestion for finding recent Branagains, here's some early posssibilities:
There are some public member trees on ancestry with Branigans from Armagh such as Edward born 1826 Crossmaglen Armagh, arrived USA 1844 & lived in Illinois the rest of his life. If you tell us the names of those you are looking for and approximate birth years we can search for you.
If you try the Name Search option on Public Records Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) which is a free site you'll find some early Brannigans / Branigans in Armagh such as Laurence in Tullyvallen, Tipping in 1830, John a parish priest in Crewilla 1775
There are also Branigans including a William in Teemullan 1783
If you look on the free site Family Search and search for Branagain Armagh births you'll get 36 matches with surname variations included. All have the parish in Armagh where they were born. The earliest is Rose Branaghan born 1763 in Ulster, Churchill.
