I have a general question about County Tyrone.

My Great Grandparents (Francis Branagan c. 1819 & Susan Morris c.1824) state in the 1851 English Census (County Durham) that were born in County Tyrone, Ireland.

I beleive that I have found the Baptism for their Oldest child Elizabeth showing Baptism on 25 May 1839 in Donaghmore, Donegal, Ireland.

When I search, I find both Donaghmore, Donegal, Ireland and Donaghmore, Tyrone, Ireland.

Were these the same place in 1839?  Is Donaghmore in fact in both counties?  Is is close to any border at the time between Donegal and Tyrone?

There were and are a Donaghmore civil parish in both counties. The Donaghmore in Donegal does border Co. Tyrone, however, the Donaghmore parish in Co. Tyrone is well inland and more to the eastern part of Co. Tyrone. The two parishes do not border each other.

  • Thank you Roger.

Based on your answer, I think I can assume that they may have lived in Tyrone and used the Donaghmore parish in Donegal for the Baptism.
