What parish does Whitefriar's Church fall in?
My James & Elizabeth McEntyre lived just across the road from the then front door.
18 Wood Street.

Also, James & Liz' son Thomas was married in St Mary's Pro and his kids were baptised there.
First wife of Thomas, Rose (Egan) mothered the 3 children (James, Mary Henrietta) and died in her early 40s. I know what happened to James and Mary but Henrietta has disappeared,,,
They had moved from Ranelagh Rd to 20 Leinster Street in Rathmines. Would they have then attended a church closer to home?
Thomas' death bed was also a hospice in the same street but he had also moved to Clontarf with his 2nd wife . 10 Fairview Strand Clontarf

There appears to be a 3rd wife in his grave a Jane McEntyre who I can't find anywhere. She died shortly after Thomas in the same hospice in Leinster St.
Have found most of them in two plots in Glasnevin, but trying to find a record of James Senior to find his father's name. I believe he was born in Offaly, possibly near Clonmacnoise. So, I'm jumping around all over the place trying to find something more.
I've contacted Whitefriars but they have switched orders over the years and nobody seems to know who has the records from back in the 1800s. Possibly nobody.

The church on Whitefriar St. is run by the Carmelite order and not a parish church. The place to search for baptisms etc depends on dates involved, but in the 1800 the closest parishes being - St. Nicholas at Francis St., SS. Michael and John at Exchange St. and St. Audoen's at High St.
The parish for area around both Ranelagh and Rathmines was Rathmines and Miltown or SS. Mary and Peter, and the church is in Rathmines, located just north of the junction with Leinster Road.
Records for all the above parishes are included on the free IrishGenealogy website.
p.s. do you know Elizabeth's maiden name ?

knew this family sounded familiar - there were recent Wood St./Pro Cathedral / Rathmines /Glasnevin topics on Anc.
Nothing promising that I saw on a quick search of City records for James and Elizabeth - the early records tend not to include street names, and there are a few variations of the surname showing up.
Following on from the details of marriage for Thomas in Rathmines I had a look at a couple of Thom's - in 1865, 18-22 Wood St. is listed as Tenements, and no McEntyres at any of the other addresses on the street, and the same year at 20 Leinster Rd., Rathmines is listed as Thomas McEntyre C.E. (civil eng. ?)

Thanks Shane,
I am looking for Elizabeth's maiden name as well.
All their death certificates were ordered last week, just waiting on those, but I don't think they will tell me much more than I already know.
It looks like (according to Griffith's) that James & Elizabeth owned #18 and were renting out 23 & 27 Wood St to lodgers. Not sure if the street would have been rated 'slum' but there were some decrepid lots and abandoned homes in the street at the time. Hope they weren't referred to as 'slumlords'
Elizabeth has this address on her burial record at Glasnevin. She lived up to 82 so was at Wood St until 1866.
Elizabeth being 14 years older than husband James is a bit of a worry... Looks like they only had the one child Thomas...She would have been 40 when she gave birth to him...The death age record could also be inaccurate.
Thanks so far....I have a lot, but exhausting every nook and cranny to find a bit more...
Cheers,

Directories dont include everyone, but since James is listed in several, and seems to be owner / occupier at 18 I would think he would show up in earlier listings if he was there, but there's no mention of him at Wood street, or in the Index(*) in any of the earlier directories, e.g. in 1848 numbers 18 and 19 are tenements, so would appear that maybe they moved there from elsewhere, possibly even from outside Dublin. (*there are several McEntire and McIntyre, but no James)
Since you have burials from Glasnevin already, I dont think that death certs will add very much detail, other than name, address and relationship of informant.
Have you any clues as to any possible siblings for Thomas or even Elizabeth, e.g. as godparents at his children's baptisms etc ?
a younger sibling might appear on the 1901 census and at least give you a county of birth...Shane Wilson, IrelandXO Volunteer ☘

There are lots of random names on the baptisms but none make much sense yet... I have a feeling Thomas had no siblings. Especially with his mother giving birth to him at 40. Thomas had married twice and I may have found a 3rd wife in his grave... all his wives died in their 40s... My theory is James Senior's father was a Thomas and James had a brother Thomas who went to Australia in 1848 from Gallen King's County. This may be the same time James came to Dublin. There is a McIntyre family in Australia with evidence they are cousins, uncles...and I've traced them back to a Thomas b1798 in Gallen. Around the same time James was born. If I can prove James came from Gallen and his father was a Thomas...I believe that will solve the missing link to all the McIntyre's in Australia, My line has had a long run of one son only...with Thomas, James repeats... If I can find Elizabeth as also being from King's County that may help too. Did James not come to Australia because he found an older 'sugar lady' in Elizabeth??? Son Thomas seems to have been well educated and had a good job. His 2 kids who came to Australia were also well educated. The cousins that went directly to Australia were in the couldn't read or write category.

This is where I have guesstimated the properties for James & Elizabeth...on an old map. Using the Griffith's notes.
Wood St has been re-routed since...
