Looking for info on my g.g.grandfather, John O'Connor born about 1800.  Father was Bernard((1775-1845) and stepmother was Catherine Waters(1775-1845) possibly both buried in Antigonish, Nova Scotia Canada.  John had a brother Patrick and possibly two sisters who also left Ireland early 1820s?.  Brothers came and settled in NS Canada.  John married Catherine Ehler of Guysboro, NS , german descent and born possibly 1793? and died 30 Oct 1890.  No info on John's death. They possibly had 6 children? Margaret Elinor, John, David, Michael, Catherine and Francis Xavier, my g.grandfather.

Can you confirm that your O'Connors were from Moore parish? If they were, RC records for the RC parish in Moore do not start until 1872.

  • Patrick's relatives have researched and this is what they have reported. Not sure if Patrick and John were brothers or step from the information that has been reported. Any suggestions where else to try and find say a birth or baptismal certificate for John and his siblings, what his mother's maiden name was and where she may be buried. It would be awesome to travel to where they resided, and attended church etc. and perhaps even find relatives still living in the county. Ann

Civil birth records did not begin until 1864. Prior to that church records if they exist are your only source for baptismal information. Availability varies parish by parish and some counties have more older records than other counties. Roscommon has very few records back to 1800. Only two parishes (Athlone and Boyle) have records back to 1800. Moore records are very late as I mentioned previously.

The current Moore Catholic church is found at this link.
