Hi,

I'm trying to trace my GGGgrandfather, Samuel Smith who went to Dumbarton, Scotland sometime before 1819, when I have a baptism record of his first child Helen there.. He was born around 1789, and there is a good possibilty he came from Co. Down, possibly Kilcoo. All his children in Scotland were baptised in the Catholic church, although he himself may have originally been baptised in the C of I. Other family names carried through are James, George, and Richard.

I have a record of a Samuel Smith baptised in Bryansford, Kilcoo C of I in 1789, parents Samuel Smith and Rose MaDowell,

His wife was Margret (sic) Duffy, born Ireland cc1801. They may have met in Scotland, as I can find no record of this name in that part of Down. If this strikes a chord with any other member I would be grateful for any info you have.
