  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I checked Roots Ireland and searched for a Edward Kinsella baptismal record in Co. Meath from 1827-1837 and got no record. There were a number of Ann Ward baptismal records but none in Navan RC parish. I went to the National Library site.  Here is the link to the Navan register. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0955

There appears to be a gap between 1813 and 1842 at least on the NLI site and since I can't find records on Roots, I'm wondering if the records for that missing period are lost.

  • Hi I searched Find My Past and got one hit for an Edward Kinsella in Navan in 1848, this would be the final year of the Irish famine, he was a signatory of the petition to commute the sentence of William Smith O'Brien, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Smith_O%27Brien. I imagine it is the same person.

Checking here on Griffiths Valuation there are 9 Kinsella's but none in Navan, there are 129 Ward entries, the same person may be mentioned twice so it is not necessarily that many people. See http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

The Tithe Applottments here http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp Show 3 Kinsellas in Meath but none in Navan, 92 Wards with two in the Navan Area, Ardsallagh and Philipstown which is a bit away. Again this is only people with over an acre of land and liable to a Church tax.

Thank you for your very fast replys. Edward seems to be a hard guy to find. His obituary states he was a native of Navan Meath. I too saw there was a gap in the years i was looking for in the newly released records. I have quite a few irish born relatives and Edward was one of the two of which i knew exactly where he were from. I am going to look at the suggested sites.

Once again thank you all for your time and help.

     Hello Board,

I found a reverend william ward son of william ward and mary montgomery born in abt 1849 in ireland. he is buried with ann or anna ward wife of the edward kinsella. I dont know if he is a brother or nephew or what have you. But if any of the wards in the navan meath area were married to a montgomery it would narrow my search. Thanks for any help in advance.

william ward 1849-1912 died in brooklyn new york. buried at holy cross cemetery brooklyn

I searched Find My Past under the names above and found nothing that appears relevant, did Edward Kinsella and Ann Ward get married in Ireland.

Also is the Mary Montgomery lady born in 1849 or is her son William born then. I searched under all dates etc for the various names and got little of relevance, Montgomey is more common that I thought.

One piece of information I came across was the Irish census of 1821 which obviously has a little bit of Meath surviving and is available at http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ Select 1821 from drop down menu. There is a William Ward with a wife Margaret and a son William aged 1 in a place called Balrathboyne, Cortown, Kells which is the main town but about 6 miles northwest of Navan.

I see on the Meath Library site they recommend a Meath Roots website which charges an initial €30 about $35 for an assessment of available records but it is hard to see them having any other information that was found by the volunteers but we do not appear to have an actual Navan volunteer who might know more,

    Hi Pat,

Thank so much for taking the time and researching the Kinsella question for me. William was born in about 1849 according to his death certificate. So im assuming his father william and mother mary montgomery were born in the 1820's.  I see a lot of the records are not there for Meath during the times when my ancestors were born. 1830's etc....

I assumed that Ann or Anna Ward was from Navan or at least Meath because i Dna match with a 4th cousin who has Wards who lived and still live in Meath. His name is Lawrence Ward 1831 who was married to Magaret Sullivan in county Meath in 1861.  Ann Ward and Edward Kinsella had a son they named Lawrence. So i dont know if Anna's father was named William or Lawrence.

By the way Lawrence Ward died in Cloughreagh ,co meath in march 1912. So i have some of the pieces of the puzzle but i cant seem to find that last few that would help me complete it.  But then thats just half the fun. Isnt it?

thanks again for your help    Bob Farley
