McCartney Family in Magheralin, County Down?

Hello!

I have been doing some research on my gr-gr-uncle, John McCartney, who fought in the U.S. Civil War and died in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA in 1894.

I just had an amazing find last month. He listed in his Union Army enlistment record that he was born in County Down, Ireland in 1823. I obtained his Civil War pension file last month and have been going through it. I noticed that he filled out a form in 1890 in which he wrote that he was born on the 23rd of April in 1823.

Amazingly, there is a baptismal record for John McCartney, son of Robert McCartney and Anne, in Magheralin, County Down for 23 April 1823. Robert and Anne McCartney of Magheralin, County Down apparently had at least three other children (George - b/chr. 18 March 1817; Robert b/chr. 17 March 1819; and Henry b/chr. 10 December 1820).

I thought I would post a similar message on here though - just in case someone else has comem across the McCartney surname in Magheralin.  Please let me know if anyone is studying this family.
