Mitchell, McNeice and Gilmour Family - Lisduff Ballysadare Sligo

You don't mention the religious denomination for your Mitchell family. If they were RC, baptismal records start in 1842 for Ballysadare RC parish. I checked on Roots Ireland and got no record so perhaps the children were born before 1842. I also looked at the 1858 Griffiths Valuation for Ballysadare civil parish. There were Mitchells and Gilmores in the parish. No Mitchells in Lisduff but there was a James Gilmore in Lisduff. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/sligo/ballysadare.htm

Hi Roger,

I have McNieces and Mitchels of Lisduff/Stonehall in my family tree.  Also related are Morrisons and Archeys.  Are you on ancestry as I could share my tree with you?  You are correct in saying tracing this lineage is frustrating - these families seem to be inter-related in several ways, all originally neighbours in a tiny rural community.

When I send this email I will immediately invite you to view my tree.  Be forewarned it gets confusing with brother and sister marrying a brother and sister, first cousins marrying etc etc.

Our link I see as being the Archey family.  Thomas Archey of Lisduff (1789-1865) had the following children:-

Margaret Archey who married Hugh Morrison (these are my great grandparents)

Mary Archey who married Thomas Mitchell

Catherine Archey who married Anthony McNiece

Gilbert Archey who married Eliza McNiece

James Archey who married Ann Matthews

Anthony McNiece and Eliza McNiece mentioned above were brother and sister.  John Duke McNiece who was a son of Anthony McNiece and Catherine Archey married his first cousin Eliza Morrison who was a daughter of Margaret Archey and Hugh Morrison. Mary Archey and Thomas Mitchell had a son Gilbert Mitchell who married Sarah Gilmore (you will see the headstone on my family tree of Gilbert and Sarah and their daughter Rebecca.  There is also mention on the headstone of an Archey Mitchell, haven't fitted him into the tree yet as I couldn't quite make out if he was 24 or 74 when he died.  If he was 24, I would presume he was a son of Gilbert and Sarah Mitchell, but if he was 74, the mind boggles because he then could have been a brother of Thomas Mitchell but strange/coincidental that he has Archey as a first name despite being on the Mitchell side!!!! possibly more intermarriages!!!!!!).

I am Christopher Mitchell and your gr.gr. gandfather and grandmother Robert and Ann McNeice were my gr. gr. gr.  Uncle and Aunt. My 3rd gr. Grandfather Thomas Mitchell was his brother and my 3rd Great Grandmother was Anne Simpson. I hope this helps and we are definitely related was wondering where do you live or where are you from? 

My 2nd Great Grandfather the son of Thomas Mitchell and Anne Simpson was William J Mitchell who was born in Ireland but immigrated to the U.S. and ended up in New Mexico where he fought in the Mexican-American War and was with the 1st Dragoons in New Mexico where he fought with the famous guide Kit Carson in the Batlle of Cieneguilla near Taos New Mexico and I am originally from Northeastern New Mexico and I now live in San Antonio Texas.
