Rick:
You can try the online Irish phone book which is a partial list of phone users. http://www.eirphonebook.ie/# Make sure you use the Residential Tab.
The 1901 census only had one person with the surname Rath in Wexford Town.

My Rath line also immigrated to Canada from County Wexford. James Rath emigrated in 1840 from near Enniscorthy with his wife Jemima Hall and nine children to Elizabethtown Township, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada. They later moved to North Dorchester Township, Middlesex County. Since both of our ancestors were named James and left in the same decade from County Wexford, perhaps they were cousins. Would there be a male descendant who would be interested in testing Y-DNA to see if your family matches mine? (My dad has tested.) This won't help you find relatives in Ireland, but it might connect you to another family that moved to Canada.

I just came across this site. I, too, have a connection to a James Rath, Wexford, Ireland, but I am unable to find any records for him. My records show he married Elizabeth Floyd and they had a daughter Dorinda (b 1752, d 1798). Dorinda married Thomas Floyd. Thomas was killed along with two sons in the Irish Rebellion, 1798. Are either of you connected here?

I have James Floyd, son of Thomas, born 1797 (?) came to Canada approx. 1817 died 1850 in Beckwith but buried in Montreal. He married Ann Scott in Montreal Jul 24 1825. Many of their children born in Montreal and later moved to Beckwith. Could be a connection?

Hello, I am seeking any connections in County Wexford for the Rath family.
I am reasonably confident my ancestors were Francis "Frank" Rath and Bridget Ellen Tiernan who were married on 8 February 1842 in Castlebridge Catholic Parish, County Wexford. They had three sons baptized in Castlebridge Parish, Martin (1843), Richard (1844), and John Joseph (1847). The family likely immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana in December 1848 and settled in St. Louis, Missouri shortly thereafter by 1849. I cannot locate/confirm any other family members (siblings, parents) for them in Ireland.
I welcome any suggestions for research for the Rath (alternatively spelled Ruth in America) family who lived in County Wexford in the middle of the 19th century, particularly Castlebridge Parish and neighboring parishes/townlands.
Thanks you,
Daniel

Rick, this may be far too late to help you, but here goes…
I believe there were a number of Raths who emigrated to Canada in 1843. William, born ca 1820, Joseph 1822, Charles 1829, Henry 1833, and James 1836. They settled in Hungerford/Stoco in Hastings County, Ontario. They and their families are accounted for in all the Canadian census surveys which started in 1861, along with their families. James’ spouse is Mary, although I’m not sure what her maiden name was. Children were Mary (Robinson), Joseph, George, Margaret, Emma and Ethel. The plots of land they had in Canada are clearly marked.
This family was from an area just north and west of Oulart in County Wexford, specifically the townlands of Ballincash and Balinarode. John Rath had substantial holdings there as a tenant farmer as seen in Tithe Applotment Books from 1825 and Griffiths Valuation ca 1857. John may be a father of these boys, although it is hard to prove, and I believe he stayed in Ireland.
This was of interest as when doing my own search in an adjoining townland in Wexford I saw the Raths. My family emigrated in 1843, and the family lore was that some neighbours, Raths, also embarked for Canada at the same time. My family also settled in Canada just north of these Raths in Elzevir, Hastings County. Thus, the story makes sense.Of note, these Raths were Protestants while my family were RC. It seemed they banded together, which was nice to see. The Raths are buried in St James Anglican cemetary near Tweed in Hastings County.
Finally, an earlier post talks about Raths who ended up near London Ontario. That is correct. I’m not sure which of your Raths are yours.

A couple of additions to my post above. In the 1857 Griffith Valuation, John Rath still has a good sized tenancy in Ballincash Upper, and he has sublet a building to Thomas Rath, perhaps an oldest son. Thomas also has a house in Balinarode, the adjoining townland, but John’s holdings in Balinarode seen in 1825 Tithe Books are gone, possibly because many of the boys left for Canada. Perhaps these two provide a link back to those who stayed in Ireland if this is the family you are looking for.
Thomas Rath with wife Mary Murphy also appears in the Oulart/The Ballagh Catholic register for the baptism of daughter Mary, July 13, 1841, possibly suggesting he converted to RC, and confirming he is probably an eldest son of John, born around 1815-1820. A second entry appears Dec 2 1843, for the baptism of Celia. There is also a an Ellen born to Richard Rath and Maryann Murphy, Jan 4 1843 and a witness is Ellen Rath. More names to track your heritage if this is the right family. I only scanned the records for 1837-1844. There may be other entries.
