Hello,
My great-grandmother was Anne or Annie Murphy, born April 1, 1857 or April 1, 1858 in Crossmaglen. Her parents were Patrick Dougherty and Bridget Bennett according to her death certificate. She emigrated to the US in either 1880 or 1881. She had at least two younger sisters, Alice and Ellen, who moved to the US later.
That's all the information I have about the family. Any information on Anne when she lived in Ireland or about her parents or siblings would be very appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Mary Clarke

Dear Col,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. I don't think this is my great grandmother because her parents were listed as Patrick Murphy and Bridget Bennett on both the family Bible and her death certificate. Her place of birth is listed as Crossmaglen, County Armagh on several family documents. So I'm pretty certain of her parents' names and her place of birth. Just not much else.
My cousin visited Crossmaglen several years ago and was told by a local with a long family history in Crossmaglen and by the priest at St. Patrick's that we were related to the Murphys from Crossmaglen town and not the Murphys from the rural area outside town. My cousin got no paperwork or actual facts.
I was in Crossmaglen a little more than a year ago and couldn't find anything in the town or at the Church. St. Patrick's told me to get in touch when I returned home to the US, but they never responded. I don't know where to look now. I understand that Catholic records are scarce prior to the 1860's-1870's, but I had hoped that being from a town would increase the likelihood of paperwork.
I would love to find any records for Patrick Murphy and Bridget Bennett and birth or baptism records for their children. Any ideas where I can look? I really appreciate your help. Thanks.
All the best,
Mary

Mary no luck for Ann with those parents but there are 5 baptisms for children of Patrick Murphy & Bridget Bennett:
Margaret 1865 Alice 1868 Rose 1869 Ellen 1874 Patrick 1876Peter 1879
Crossmaglen is not in the list of parishes but Creggan is close to Crossmaglen.
The source of the above, rootsireland.ie, has Upper Creggan RC records and these 5 are from there!

Dear Col,
Thanks so much! I couldn't find these on the sites I usually use: Ancestry, FindMyPast UK, and Family Search. I may subscribe to rootsireland from here on because this is just one of my Irish branches and maybe I can find stuff for my other Irish ancestors.
I'll let you know how I do.
Thanks again,
Mary
