Hi everyone. I am looking for information about my ancestor Catherine Carlyle.
Catherine was born in 1781 in Ireland, according to 1841 census of Scotland. She emigrated to Scotland at some point. Married Daniel Farrels before 1822, but I have not been able to find a marriage record either in Ireland or Scotland. I found references in Scottish documents to their children Mary, Fanny and Elizabeth Farrels (the last two of which were born in Scotland, the first I don't know). Daniel must have died or they separated sometime between 1832 and 1841.
In FindMyPast I found the following baptism records:
- Catherine Carlille 22 September 1779, Castletara parish, Cavan. Parents Bartholomew Carlille and Eliza Brady
- Catherine Carlisle 20 December 1793 St Peter’s Athlone parish, Roscommon. Parents Joseph and Mariaque Meenaghan.
Either of these could be my Catherine, although the Castletara date is closer. But with so little information to go on, I cant be sure. Maybe neither of them are the right one.
If anyone has more information that could help me, or is also looking for this name, please do get in touch.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You are correct, without additional data you can't be sure if either of these records are for your ancestor. Very few RC churches have records back to 1781. Usually it would be RC churches in the larger cities like Dublin and Cork. Although there are three in Co. Cavan: Castleterra, Castlerahan and Lurgan.
You might want to consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will match someone with Carlisle connections who has more specific info on the family.
Hopefully someone will see your message here and respond.
