  • I couldn't find any Gleasons in Tipperary in the Irish phone book.

There are quite a few John Gleason birth/baptism records on www.rootsireland.ie/ (including surname variants) from Neneagh R C parish; do you have a birth year for him?

According to the Ellis Island passenger list he was 19 when he arrived 20 Sept 1902 on the Lucania from Queenstown - last residence Nenagh - but this doesn't mean he was born there. Do you have the name of any siblings?

These are the 2 closest matches from roots:

  • I apologize for presenting so little information.  His parents were Michael Gleason and Mary Ryan Gleason.  Siblings were William and Johanna.  He had a son John who became a Franciscan (OFM) priest  who viisited the family in Ireland in the 1950,s but records of this trip are lost.  I don't think he was the Ellis island passenger referred to above.  I think he arrived in 1900 and was age 26 at the time.  He went on to be a policeman in Buffalo N.Y.

  • Hi all,

there is an Ellis Island entry (which I have failed to copy/upload) for John Gleason, aged 26, arrival date Nov 15th 1900 aboard the Majestic. The rest is hard to make out and purely guesswork - going to sister Hannah, 103 University Ave, Syracuse, NY. Hope this helps.
