Our Ancestor was named Peter Quin. He left Ireland at the age of approximately 16 and came to America. He became a drummer boy in the American Revolution. This was around 1776. We understand he came alone, leaving family and home, although it seems that he had several brothers. We know nothing of his life or family in Ireland, or what caused him to come to America. Or what happened to his family in Ireland. We do know that the Quin Abby remains was originally built by the Quin clan, and served as their defensive castle. We also know it was overtaken by the Normans in approximately 1066. Legend has it that the original Quin (a much longer name) was royalty from Spain. Factor Fiction?? I do not know. Butmainly, we wish to know about the Quin Clan today, and perhaps some of the gaps can be filled in. Thanks,, Margaret H Quin, wife of Robert Marshall Quin.

Margaret:
Hello again!
I checked the online Irish phone book which is only a partial list of phone users. I did not see any Quinn listings in the Quin area. Here is a link to the RC church in Quin http://www.quinclooneymagheraparish.ie/ Perhaps you can e-mail the parish secretary and see if she knows of any Quinn families in the parish. If there are, she can provide your e-mail address and see if they contact you.

Dear Margaret:
Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out. I am the parish liaison for the parish of Tulla which borders Quin.
I did a quick check of the Tithe Applotment Books for the Quinn surname in County Clare and there are a number of families. However, there does not appear to be a family in Quin. There are families in Doora, Tulla and Clonlea (all parishes which border Quin parish).
You might be interested in taking a look at the Clare Library website as you will find that it has a number of interesting resources available:

If you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at: tulla@irelandxo.com.
Kind regards,
Jane.
