The O'Brien family research by Christine has discovered roots in Donegal, Cork, Limerick, Roscommon, Tipperary, Clare, Laois, Offaly, Antrim and Derry so far..!
After several years of researching, Christine Robbins (nee O'Brien) spent 9 months in a caravan last year traveling to Donegal, Cork, Limerick, Roscommon, Tipperary, Clare, Laois, Offaly, Antrim and Derry. In many cases Christine even has the townland her family came from, but as she was trying to continue her research she found challenges because of the lack of records and Irish family trees. Christine wasn't able to achieve as much as she had hoped because the most important resource - the personal knowledge each family has about their own ancestors was not explored or documented. This is the greatest untapped knowledge base that the Irish people have and it is not freely available.
Ireland Reaching Out can help bridge the gap of the mapping of family trees of the people who still live in the parishes that the emigrants who left Ireland came from. Christine endorsed the Ireland Reaching Out programme saying, "the concept of Ireland Reaching Out is brilliant, unique and most importantly about family and community and the importance of the Parish and it's long standing role through hundreds of years - of being a focus and source of inspiration, encouragement and support for the people"
