looking for info on my family from Ireland This is what I have John Kiernan married to Elizabeth Monaghan Son ,Thomas . I believe 1788 from Longford Married to a Bridget!!!
Children Anne , Mary, John Thomas All born in Castleton,Castlepollard,Westmeath. Originally thought birthdates were 1820,1826,1830,1832
However using your website found
Anne b of Thomas Kiernan and Bridget Morris ,June 24,1818
Thomas b of Thomas Kiernan and Bridget Morris ,June 10, 1829
Family migrated to Australia in 1840 aboard the Mary Dugdale
Do I have the correct Thomas and Bridget??

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
The parish registers for Longford and Westmeath are available on rootsireland.ie. A search for a marriage between a Kiernan and Monaghan was not successful leading me to believe that they were married in the bride's parish where records no longer exists or did exist at one time but not any longer. These are the baptisms for children from that marriage:
- Thomas baptised 20th August 1788 in the parish of Granard
- Ann baptised 19th April 1795 (query as to this one as even though it is the same parish as above, the mother's first name is not recorded)
- John baptised 6th April 1800 as in Granard
There doesn't seem to be a surviving marriage record for Thomas and Bridget/Brigid Morris nor any baptisms for their children in Longford or Westmeath. Can I ask where on our site you saw the info, perhaps an XO Chronicles entry?
The Tithe Applotment for Granard date from 1833 and record a Thomas Kiernan in Granard, townland of Killeen and this may be your Thomas. You can see the digitised copy HERE. Even though much of the 1841 & 1851 Census is no longer available there are still some fragments for Longford but there is no Thomas Kiernan listed in either of these.
Perhaps you can get back to me about the above
Best wishes

Hi Clare. Thankyou for your help.
The Anne and John that you mentioned- are they siblings of Thomas born 1788
On the "Register of Emigrant Labourers Applying for a Free Passage to South Australia" dated April 2 1840, it lists
Thomas Kiernan 25,20 (wife) Mary 17,Ann 19, Thomas 14,12 (John) from Castleton,Castlepollard.
I would say the ages listed aren't correct
On the website registers.nli.ie looked under Castlepollard
I found Ann - parents Thomas Kiernan ,Bridget Morris.Sponsors Thomas Chapman,Bridget Chapman June 24 1818
Thomas- parents Thomas Kiernan,Bridget Morris.Sponsors Thomas Hamlan (unclear) ,Ann Donnelly June 10,1829
(Page 33 may 1829 to June 1829, Castlepollard/Microfilm 04164/04)
Are these the children of Thomas born 1788?
Once again thankyou for your help . Linda

Yes! Sorry for the confusion, the Ann and John mentioned above are children of John Kiernan and Elizabeth Monaghan and siblings of Thomas (who later went on to marry Bridget).
You are also correct that those NLI baptisms are for Ann and Thomas who were children of Thomas and Bridget Morris - I have found them on Ancestry now - but there doesn't seem to be any other children listed in the list of 200+ baptisms there aside from those two mentioned
Many thanks

I understand that they are the children of Thomas and Bridget I wanted to just double check to see if the Thomas Kiernan married to Bridget is the same Thomas Kiernan born 1788 baptized in Granard .
Once again
