The Top of the Rock was a place of assembly for generations, ever since St Finbarr arrived there c 600AD and admonished the people to return to Christ. The Great Fari was held on his feast day for generations. When O Donovan Rossa arrived it would have been a hive of activity, buyimng and selling and of course faction fighting. He urged the protagonists to cease from damaging each other and unite in the common cause against British rule. It seems his efforts met with considerable success.
2nd September 1864
Jeremiah O Donovan Rossa arrives at the Apple Fair at the Top of the Rock and puts an end to the practice of faction fighting which had gone on for many years.
