  • Griffiths Valuation for 1854 has 2 Kilroe households in Cloghal More. One headed by William and the other by Patrick. Suspect one of those may be Laurence's father.

Lawrence & Brigid's marriage was registered in Parsonstown 1864 Vol 3, page 630. The civil cert should give you their father's names.

    and in 1911:

They had 9 children of whom 8 were still alive in 1911. Married 48 years.

    Laurence died 19.6.1911:

  • Thank you Elwyn ! On the registry it said both father's I believe were Patrick but no mother listed. Is there any sites that would have newspaper artlicles in that town?

  • Mothers’ names aren’t recorded on Irish marriage certificates so that’s normal. At least you can pinpoint which farm your family came from knowing that Lawrence’s father was Patrick. Shouldn’t be too difficult to locate today should you ever wish to do so.

Don’t know about newspapers or whether they are on-line. Suggest you contact Birr library and ask them what papers exist, and where copies are kept (give them the broad dates you are interested in as many papers have come and gone). They may also know if any are on-line.

  • This Historian in Offaly retired before I can get the information from her on my family.  My father passed away and I took time off. Here is what she wrote and I'm looking for any advice how I can find the Townsland record and the other family members. I have the 1901-1911 census. Thank you in advance. Michele

I have conducted preliminary research and you will be pleased to learn I have located the civil birth record of Catherine in 1872, daughter of Laurence and Bridget and she had six siblings.

There is an exact townland recorded for the Kilroe family.  ?

I also located the civil marriage record of Catherine's  parents, which is very informative at it gives, both  paternal grandfathers, thus enabling us to get back a further generation.
It also gives ages of Laurence and Bridget, addresses, and witnesses to the marriage.

I also located the Kilroe family in the 1901 census of Ireland.
I did locate the  possible baptismal record of Laurence and he had either two or three siblings, the register is very had to read.  I could not locate a marriage record for Laurence parents as the marriage register was lost many years ago.

I searched the records and may have located the baptismal record of Bridget Dolan in a surrounding parish and she seemed to have two siblings, this takes us back to the mid 1830s.
