Timothy Clougher family

Hello,

I have been searching for Clougher in Tissara Ballyforan in Elphin, Roscommon as well. If there are other sources             to review I would be most interested. I am also wondering what the population of this are was from 1800-1860 as I find my Clougher, Costello and Kelly names

I have an ancestor Honoria Clougher who married a Patrick Costello in Elphin, Roscommon on 2/5/1877 - see below italics

Patrick and Honoria later immigrated to Boston. I believe my great grandmother Margaret Costello b. 1856 was the sister of Patrick Costello. I have a public tree on ancestry.com if you want to view it for potential connections. I also have DNA on gedmatch - #A796421 if you participate in that.

I checked the Tithe listings and there were about ten Clougher records in other parishes in South Roscommon but not Dysart. I then searched under Clogher in Dysart and got the records at the link below. My guess is that some of these names are duplicates. Possibly Timothy's father was one of these names.

I'm a Clougher myself living in Ireland and have begun taking a cursory look at my family history. From speaking to my late grandfather a few years ago it seems my family in any case were all from Dysart, Ballymintan/Ballyforan area in Roscommon.

I know from the 1901 census that my Great-Great Grandfather was a Pat Cougher from Dysart (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Dysart/Bally…)  who being listed as 49 years of age on the census would have been born around 1852. It is here I am stuck and am unsure where to go next to find further records to go back further. Or how to do this. Any advice would be appreciated. I would love to see his birthcert for his fathers name which could then tie it to the tithe listings. If you look at the link above you can see that the eldest son is a James Clougher which makes me think that he may be a relation (grandson perhaps) of the James Clogher listed in the 1837 search result Roger so kindly provided above.

 As for the Clougher/Clogher situation it is family legend that the addition of the "u" was the result of a spelling error on someones birthcert. How true this is I do not know but my great Aunt, who never married, always spelt her name as Clogher despite her official documentation using the "clougher" spelling becuase she believed the correct spelling to be Clogher for the aforementioned reason.

Any help or advise at all would be greatly appreciated. Or if there is aything you think I could assist with please don't hesitate to ask.

to see if any of them are listed there.

I have been trying to find information on an Ann Clougher(b around 1818) who married Daniel Costello b. around 1815. They emmigrated to Mass, USA in 1839. Story is her (Ann) sister married Daniel's brother and that family stayed in Ireland. Another sister of Daniel married a Lynch and emmigrated to Australia. I have found the tittle allotement record of Daniel and his father Hugh Costello in the Dysart Area. I am at a dead end regarding the Cloughers and the Costellos at that period in Ireland or Australia. Any help would be appreciated. I went to Dysart and the region a few years ago - what a beautiful place!
