I have been trying to find out more about my 3rd great grandfather, Manus LOGUE, who I believe may have come from Mevagh. He arrived in the United States around 1860, and settled in the Sixth Ward of Allentown, PA. I would like to find out where and when he was born, who his parents were and if he had any siblings. Below outlines what I know of Manus:
- He was born ca. 1840 (sources: US Census Records 1860-1900)
- He married Ann BROWN, daughter of Bernard and Bridget BROWN (source: Bridget Brown's obituary, Allentown, PA)
- One son, Manus Jr., was born in Ireland ca. 1859
- Manus arrived in the United States May 1860 thorugh the port of New York. He left through the port of Derry. (source: Naturalization papers. No passenger record found).
- Ann and Manus Jr. arrived later on October 28, 1864 in New York, on the ship "Thornton." The ship had departed from Liverpool.
- Manus and Ann went on to have 7 more children, all born and baptized in Allentown: Bernard, John, Michael Charles, Mary Clare, James, Daniel Amandus and Catherine Anita.
- Godparents and neighbors of the Logue family included: Bernard McGee, siblings Mary, James, Ellen and Marjorie Herrity, Manus McCarry, Hannah McHugh, Michael McFadden, Francis Hynes and Mary Shiels.
- Bridget Brown, mother of Ann Logue, died in Allentown in 1900. She came to live in Allentown with Manus some time before or in 1899. Her obituary only said that she was the widow of Bernard Brown.
- Manus died in 1901. His wife, Ann died in 1893.
- No other Logue families lived in Allentown during the time period of 1860-1901.
My hypothesis is that Manus and Ann came from Mevagh, based on the many Logue families that lived in Mevagh, and also many of the surnames of their neighbors also seem to have lived there. Any feedback would be appreciated.

We don't have a parish liaison for Mevagh but I will alert our parish liaison for Clondavaddog parish about your message. Mevagh is close to Clondavaddog.
As an aside, I'm currently working on the 1901 census for Co. Donegal and have about 50% of the county in the data base. There are actually more Logue's in the Inishowen peninsula and further south along the Tyrone border in Donaghmore parish.

I have given a fairly thourough search but infortunately it seems that Manus Logue b.1840 happens to be too far back for available Records. Rosguill Parish Records records are not available online to view unlike my own Parish of Clonddavadog where you can go back to 1847 for referencing Marriages and Births. I have also exhausted searches with Parish Records for his son Manus Logue born in Donegal. I am attaching your findagrave information for Manus Logue here for anyone local that may be looking on with interest.

The plot is located adjacent to the church in the second row back from Ridge Avenue. The stone says "LOGUE"on it.

I have had a very good look at your Logue Family tree up on ancestry and I went through all the documentation you would have have added, looking for small clues. There was a few things that I did notice that make me tend to agree with you in regards to this Logue family having maybe come from the locality of Mevagh in Donegal.
1) I agree the names of the godparents are all names you would find in the local community- "Godparents and neighbors of the Logue family included: Bernard McGee, siblings Mary, James, Ellen and Marjorie Herrity, Manus McCarry, Hannah McHugh, Michael McFadden, Francis Hynes and Mary Shiels".
2) I also found interesting the 1880’s Petition Papers for Amandus "Manus" Logue. Lehigh County Naturalization Records, Allentown, PA, I attached it below - On the papers it referenced names you would find in the local community: Michael McCloskey & Edward McGettigan.
3) You added alot of Information to one of the screenshots capured, I know this was only personnel notes yet all these names and locations refer to the Parish of Mevagh:
Amandus Manus Logue 1840-1901 - Amandus Manus Logue and his wife Ann Fannie Brown were Godparents for Frank Hines and Mary Shields(daughter of Bridget Logue) son Frank Hines Jr.11-26-1881. The Shields and Logue families are related someway back in Donegal,Ireland - must be researched more.The Shields-Logue-Hines families are from"Dundoan, Downings,Co.Donegal.Ireland. Note: it says Amandus's mothers name is Bridget McBride born in 1826 Dundoan, Downings, - this also has to be researched a lot more and is not 100% positive thats it is Amandus's mother. What we do know is Mary Shields Hines mothers maiden name was Bridget"Logue"and she married Peter Shields. Also Frank and Mary Hines were Godparents for Amandus and Annie Logues daughter Catherine in 1880 at IMM Church.

It seems that the Parish of Mevagh has a certain connection, as does the importance of the name Manus which has been handed down for a few generations. I went looking to see could I possibly find the name Manus Logue anywhere in Donegal in the Tithe Applotment Books. These Tax books tell the name of only some of the tenants and farmers that were able to afford the leasing of land at that time taken 1823-1837 in Donegal
I found ONE result for a Manus Logue (that was transcribed incorrectly) and looking at the location there is every possibility that he may even be the father to Manus Logue born in 1840.

There isn’t a Manus Logue recorded in the 1858 Griffith Valuation for Donegal or the Townland of Carrigart, (attached), but it does reference a Mary Logue, Enaus Logue and a Michael Logue owning a shared Plot of land (Plot#6) in Carriagart back in the 1850's.
