I am looking for birth details of Charlotte Broughton who may have been born in or near Woodfield and Kiladerry in 1814. Charlotte travelled from Cork in 1832 (free not convict), to Australia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. JaxW

  • Hi Jax

I tried all the usual sites for Charlotte's birth/baptism without success.

However, there are quite a few trees on ancestry which have her born in England 1814 - father William Broughton mother unknown. The source cited is the Red Rover record but that doesn't have her country of birth. You also mentioned that she left from Cork. I can post the rest of the details if you wish - married Michael Hyam & died in Sydney 1849

I did find the following which might solve it if you are in Sydney:

1990-2000, English, Book, Microform edition:Women on the Red Rover and other early migrant ships, 1832 [microform].New South Wales. Government Immigration Office

    Physical Description

    • 1 microfilm reel : positive ; 35 mm.

    Published

    • Sydney : Archives Authority of New South Wales, [199-?]

    Language

    • English

  • Hi Col,

I am enormously grateful for your reply. Yes, my Charlotte arrived Sydney on Red Rover and married Michael Hyam. I had some information which led me to believe she was Irish. I will follow up! This has been one of my huge obstacles and you have made me very happy.

I think from your email that Charlotte is not an ancestor or yours, but if he is, I have some details of some descendants which I am happy to pass on

  • Hi Jax

Great you found the info helpful.

No Broughtons in my lines I'm afraid.

    Cheers
