Kough Church of Ireland Records

As far as I can determine, the Anglican church in Adamstown is not active. I think I would contact the Diocese of Cashel, Ferns and Ossory http://cashel.anglican.org/?page_id=1489  to see where the Adamstown C of I records are held.

I searched on Find My Past and was unable to locate any RC baptismal records in Adamstown for Kough children. Here is the parish register  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0567   You may want to do some manual searching.

I'm also wondering if the name was also spelled Keogh. The 1853 Griffiths Valuation head of housheold listing for Adamstown parish shows a number of Keogh records. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/wexford/adamstown.htm

Thank you for your response to my message.

You are correct, there are many variations of spelling in the records. Using the information on birth, marriage and death registrations. I have found that Henry Kough (abt.1795-abt 1860) held leases in the townlands of Templenacroha, Ballagh, Marshmeadows, Barretts Park and Castlemoyle, the last three are in the name of his father-in-law, Charles Dodd,  in the Tithe Applotment Books.

I have not been able to establish whether other Keough, Keogh or Kehoe in the Griffitth's Valuations etc. were related. A website mentioned that there were the true Irish Keoughs of Co. Wexford and the German Keoughs. From family knowledge, mine were the German.

There are records of Kough families at New Ross prior to 1795 back to 1715 when Kath Kough is listed as the head of a Palatine family on the Abel Ram estate at Old Ross but I have not found Henry's background. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what records might be available.

The Church of Ireland at Adamstown seems to have been been demolished sometime in the early 1900s, as there is no sign of the building on current maps. The graveyard is still there and at least some of the old headstones are just visible from the road (Google street view).

The area now seem to be part of the Parish Union of Killane with churches at Killane, Killegney, Rossdroit and Templeshanbo,  the historic records for Adamstown are most likely held by one of these churches.

The green marker on the the parish list indicates that at least some of the records for the parish were lost, and the M that there are microfilms of records available for this parish in the National Archives (Dublin), so worth checking what dates these cover. The 2nd yellow line shows that marriages from 1851 are held by the RCB Library.

In addition to the Diocese it's worth contacting the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin as they may be able to help with the location of these records and possibly who to contact. Their website has contact details, the website also has contact details for the Parish of Killlane and a map showing the various church locations - see Killane St. Anne.

Thank you for your suggestions which I will follow in preparation for my trip in October. There is information in various sources on the Kough families of New Ross, especially those who belong to merchant branch which descends from Thomas Kough. Mine appears to have remained on the land and I think possibily descends from a different son of Kath Kough. There is a George Kough, head of Palatine family, at Old Ross in 1790.
