Looking for information on JAMES KEARNS (surname also spelled KERNS, KIERNS, & CARINS), from the Parish of Knockbride, County Cavan, possibly the townland of Dromeague. Born about 1817 in Ireland. Died 17 APR 1882, 23 Blackness Road, Dundee, Scotland. Married to CATHERINE McINTIRE, 17 FEB 1835, Parish of Knockbride, County Cavan, in a Roman Catholic ceremony. Witness was a JOHN BRADY. (NOTE: Have found CATHERINE's surname listed as McINTYRE, McENTEE, McANTEE, McGUIRE, & STEWART). Belive they are the parents my great-grandfather JOHN CAIRNS.
From what I've pieced together they had 4 children:
1. JAMES KERNS, born in Ireland about 1835. Roman Catholic baptism 4 DEC 1835. Address: Dromeague, Parish: Knockbride, County Cavan. Parents: JAMES KERNS & CATHERINE McENTEE. Sponsors JOHN & MARY WAX.
2. ANNE KEIRNS, born in Ireland about 1838. Roman Catholic baptism 19 APR 1838. Address: Drummeage, Parish: Knockbride, County Cavan. Parents: JAMES KIERNS & CATHERINE GINTY. Sponsors JAMES CAFRY & ANNE BOYLE. Scotland census records show her living in Dundee, Scotland 23 Blackness Road.
3. JOHN CAIRNS, born in Ireland sometime between 1840-1851. Died 3 SEP 1914 in Dundee, Scotland.Resided on Blackness Road, Dundee, Scotland. Worked as a weaver. Death & 2 marriage records listed his father as JAMES CAIRNS, yet his mother was listed as CATHERINE STEWART (death record), CATHERINE McGUIRE (1st marriage), & BRIDGET McANTEE (2nd marriage).
4. ALEXANDER CAIRNS, born in Ireland circa 1841. Roman Catholic Baptism 4 APR 1841. Address: Drummague, Parish: Knockbride, County Cavan. Parents: JAMES KIERNS & CATHARINE McENTEE. Sponsors PATT MULLIN & BRIDGET McENTEE. Died 4 MAY 1903, Blackness Road, Dundee, Scotland, parents listed as JAMES CAIRNS & CATHERINE McINTYRE.
It appears that the CAIRNS family, immigrated and settled in Dundee, Scotland in the early to mid 1800's to work in the mills.
