Hi
I am looking for a family of Kennedy.
Daniel and Catherine (nee Murphy?) Kennedy lived at Drom at the time their children left for Australia 1853 to 1858.
On various documents the children's town of origin was given as Drom or Templemore.
The children were John, Margaret, Julia, Timothy, Thomas and Mary.
By 1859/1860 the youngest sister, Mary, gave her address as Barnan, Templemore when her sister, Margaret, in Sydney, paid for her passage. Margaret had married a soldier who had retired and ran a Catholic Bookshop in Sydney.
If anyone could find any information about my family I would be grateful.
Sarah (nee kennedy)

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I located transcriptions of baptismal records for six children: John 1827 Thomas 1828 Margaret 1831 James 1833 Judith 1833 Mary 1838. All the records were in the Drom RC parish https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0261 It is possible that there were children before John since records start in 1827. The mother was Catherine Murphy. I pasted the last record below.
We have an XO Chronicles site https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…; where you can add stories of your ancestors who left Ireland.

Hi, below are the ship records, it seems they were in a townland called Liss, Drom.
The John Carden mentioned, there are Carden's from there.
I looked for the deaths of Daniel and Catherine.
Civil records were introduced in 1864 and this is when deaths appear, though some do appear in some Parish Books.
I will look again for you.
Cheers

Hi Margot
Thank you for all your efforts. From the family folklaw there were no other children.
I found all the baptismal records with the exception of Thomas born 22 Dec 1835.
I have not got any records showing Catherine or Daniel's death. They were both alive up until at least 1853 if not more.
I know that all the children had come to Australia by 1860.
Any help on Catherine or Daniel's death would be appreciated. Would they be listed in the newspapers of the time?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
John Carden.........I know why I couldn't find your Daniel in GriffithsValuation.
John was Sir John Carden and owned land all over the area, he has some of his tennants as "Workers of John Carden"
No Names just where they were, mainly in BARNANE ELY the Parish name, in the townland of Barnane.
There was one Kennedy named, a Bartholomew Kennedy in the same area.
I have searched for Catherine and Daniel's deaths, before 1864 deaths were not logged, only on rare occasions you may be lucky to get some in the Parish books.
I have placed on my map that I take to Ireland the place Barnane, we will be down that way in July. I will have a look to see if there is a graveyard with the Kennedy names.
Ok,
Margot

Attached FilesJohanna and Honora Kennedy.jpg (123.88 KB)
I also have Kennedys who came to Australia from Drom Tipperary around the same time.
They were also connected to Templemore Estate and their fare was paid for by Sir Henry Carden.
I wonder if they were related.
I have attached a newspaper clipping

Hi Lisa,
Is this your Johanna? .....................says she has a sister Margaret in 225 George Street. I cannot see Honora.KENNEDY Johanna 1858 20 Drom Daniel / Catherine living at Drom Sis = Margaret K.,225 George St. Ship = Northern Light
Lisa if you look at the above list I sent earlier, John, Thomas and Mary record it states Margaret so you all must be related.
OH!!!! and Johanna went on the same ship as Thomas.

Hi Margot,
I don't think it is, as the clipping I attached from her death notice states that she and Honora came out on a ship called the "Birmingham"in 1851.
The Mrs Thomas Derby in the clipping is Hanora, my great, great, great grandmother.
She was born cerca 1832 and Johanna in 1840.

Hi Lisa,
I see the ship record Honora was listed as Nora.

Yes, I am finding a lot of conflicting information like ages and dates of birth.
I can see that they only had one brother who died in the crimean war but I have no idea of his name.

Hi Margot,
I'm Lisa'a sister.
I'm excited to have found the baptism and marriage records for our Kenendy's and they are definitely a different family line, however give the proximity, are likely to be related I would suggest:
(All records from painstaking page by page search of Drom and Inch parish registers)
Wiliam Kennedy m Sally Hogan May 1829
Children to above:
William b. Nov 1828
Onny (Honora/Nora) b. Oct 1830
Mary b. Mar 1833
Judy (Johanna) b. No 1836
William also found in England census of 1851 as residing in a barracks at Scarborough, which fits with him fighting in the Crimean war.
Honora & Johanna (as noted above) emigrated 1854 to Australia
No further Record of Mary
