    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Here is a link to the parish register for Loughglynn  from 1817-1880  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0557

I looked at the records onb Roots Ireland (subscription site) and I can see ten children for Patrick Dyer and Mary Grady from 1850-1873. So likely Patrick was born earlier than 1839.

Let me know if you need more information.

  • Dear Mr. McDonnell,

Thank you most sincerely for your reply and for finding the additional information about my great-great grandparents Patrick Dyer and Mary Grady.  I think that you were correct, that Patrick was born 1835 or earlier.

If you recommend that I subscribe to Roots Ireland to see the records that you found, I will do so.  I would like to see the names of their children and any other information.

If there is a way to learn the names of Patrick and Mary's parents and earlier generations, that would be most wonderful.

I will look through the records that you provided a link.  I have explored similar records on line and have not yet been confident of the connection to Patrick.

Patrick's son Thomas J Dyer emmigrated to the US in 1883 (US 1900 census information).  His wife was Sarah Barnes.  They lived in Jacksonville, Morgan County, Illinois, USA, my home town.

Thomas's Daughter May Winnifred Dyer married Oscar C. Crabtree, my mother was Therese Marie Crabtree.

In 1978 my mother and her sister found a memorial card for Patrick and Mary in a trunk that belonged to Thomas.  (edited to be brief) it read Mary Dyer, wife of Patrick Dyer, Ballyglass, Loughglynn died 5 Apr 1885  (133 years ago today, also my youngest brother's birthday), and of Patrick Dyer died 20 Jun 1891, interred Cloonard, Loughglynn.  The bottom of the card stated Irish Catholic Office Dublin.

In 2007 my wife and I visited Loughglynn, attended Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel, was given directions to the Cloonard cemetary and found Patrick and Mary's tombstone.  I have a picture.

From Thomas's obituary, we know that he had a sister Winnifred 1876-1944 who married Timothy Casserly, they lived near Indianapolis, IN, USA.  Have a record of He had a sister Josaphine, married Roy Chester Evans, lived in Ohio, USA.

The obit stated that he had a sister in Ireland married to Freeman, and a brother in Ireland.

I found a willcallendars.ie for Patrick Dyer d. Ballyglass, Co Roscommon  20 Jun 1891, sole beneficiary John Dyer, granted at Tuam.

Other children I think may be Andrew,

I wish that there would be a way to trace other descendants of Patrick still living in Ireland.  We are thinking of returning in the coming year.

On my father's side, I have a Martha Jane Daily (Daly?) 1854 - 1916 that I think was born Derry, Catholic.

  • George:

I would recommend a short-term subscription to Roots Ireland. Listed below are the ten baptismal records I located. Looks like at least two children died young because there are two James and Winifred records. I searched for Dyer children of Patrick and Mary Grady but if the priest showed Mary Dyer, the record would not come up in my search. I say this to point out there may be additional children.

Also, you can go to www.irishgenealogy.ie and get the civil birth records for the four children born after 1863. The Loughglynn records go back to 1817. Assuming Patrick and Mary were baptized in that parish, there records may be available but without knowing their parents names, you can't confirm a record. Also since I did not see a marriage record for the couple likely they were married in a different parish (Mary's) which does not have records back to 1850.

Here is the likely civil death record for Mary https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_retu…

Could not find Patrick's 1891 death record.

John was likely the brother who stayed in Ireland http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Loughglynn/B…

Did not see a marriage record for Winifred.

Let me know what questions you have.
