I located the 1874 civil marriage reocrd for Thomas and Johanna on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie

From the subscription site Roots Ireland, it appears they had five children in Ireland: Patrick 1875 Daniel 1876 Thomas 1877 Mary 1879 Charles 1880. When Patrick was born they were in Moigh townland in Caherconlish civil parish where Johanna came from but by 1880 they were in Ballybrood townland in Ballybrood civil parish just to the south of Caherconlish.

I looked at the 1901 census in Moigh, Clashbane and Ballybrood and the only potential family link that I identified would be the Martin White family in Ballybrood.

It would be difficult to find descendants in Ireland now. Can I suggest that you add Thomas' story to our XO Chronicles site.

Have you considered DNA testing. You may find matches in America, Canada, Australia or possibly Ireland.

Roger, Thank you for your response, it means a lot to me. I have records of my Greatgrandfather's siblings and to the best of my knowledge he was the only one to leave Ireland. I am stuck in Ballybrood and cannot seem to find where Patrick White and Mary Sullivan originated from. I should have my foreign birth registration complete before I come to visit and I am hoping I can find living descendants of the family.  I will add those records when I return to New York. You can search the civil marriage records for "White" in the Limerick registration district at www.irishgenealogy.ie  I would search from 1900-1920 and see if you might find a marriage record or two. It will be difficult finding records for Patrick and Mary Sullivan if they were from Caherconlish since records start in 1841. Let us know when you make plans for your Ireland trip.

I can recommend DNA testing as a means to throw light on your Irish family

DNA testing helped me to find someone currently living in the Parish- Moylough - that my 2xGGrandmother Mary Ann White hailed from.  Mary Ann White emigrated to Sydney on a bounty ship and her  parents names names Thomas and Mary White weavers from Mountbellew, County Gallway were uncorroborated - she did not have a baptismal certificate unlike other emigrant girls on board the John Renwick in 1841. It was exciting to find my DNA match still living in the area although she has not as yet responded to my email to her but at least I know the shipping information to be correct. I also had a match, now living in Australia, with someone whose White family emigrated to Salford in the UK from Ireland around 1850.  The English cenus of 1851 shows the family names ages and occupations.  I have concluded the the pair who emigrated were either cousins or siblings of my forebear but have not had any luck in confirming as present families don't have the information yet either!
