Mary Tully was born abt 1839 in Dublin.  She married James Nicholls in 1857 Preston, England and marriage certificate says father unknown!   Long shot but just had to ask whether anybody has any information or ideas.

  • Maura:

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

www.irishgenealogy.ie  is a free site which has Dublin city church records. (Use Church Record TAB). There are four Mary/Maria Tully baptismal records around 1839-- 1837(2)-1840 1843 on that site. Howver, you need her parents names to confirm any of these records.

You may want to add Mary's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection  https://www.irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-dat…

    Have you considered DNA testing?

  • Thanks Roger.

I don't know her parents names. It's one of my brick walls. I will look again on irishgenealogy.ie see if any names fit with the descendants.

I am amazed at what I have found on that site. I have been able to get grandparents birth, and marriage certificates.

    Thanks for you help.

  • just to mention - one of the larger Catholic Parishes in Dublin City is not included on the IrishGenealogy website, St. Paul's, Arran Quay. Images of the registers for this parish are incuded on the National Library website - see this link. Both FindMyPast and Ancestry have indexed the Catholic Register collection.

The St. Paul's RC registers include at least one possible match born around the right timeframe at St. Paul's -  a Mary baptised 1836 possibly in May, to Patrick Tully & Margaret Farley - see this register page (the Tully entry is on the right page, 2nd entry below the 6010). There are also a number of Mary/Maria Tully baptisms around the right time in the suburbs, and also in Co. Dublin in Rush, Swords, Lucan etc.
