Charles McLAUGHLIN (or McLOUGHLIN) was born circa 1790, son of James McLaughlin, a farmer, and Mary McFADDEN.
About 1815, Charles married Anne CARLIN (daughter of William Carlin and Julia HEGARTY) in Creave (unsure which parish), Donegal.
They went on to have 6 (surviving) children - James (circa 1818), Julia (circa 1821, my 4x Great Grandmother), Catherine (circa 1823), William (circa 1825), Bridget (circa 1827) and Anne (circa 1828).
Unfortunately, Charles was referred to the authorities and at the Donegal Assizes held at Lifford on the 31st March 1829 - "Charles McLaughlin - For uttering forged notes of the Bank of Ireland amounting to £3. Guilty. To be transported 14 years".
Charles was transported to New South Wales, Australia aboard the ship "Edward" departing 17th October 1830 and arriving in Sydney on 22nd February 1831, however his wife and children remained in Donegal.
Letters the Leck parish rector had written to the NSW Colonial Secretary's office on Charles and Annes behalf (pleading to allow Anne and the children to join him) said Charles was from Carrygawley and his wife currently resided in Ballyboe.
